Dr Islam Nassar is a FRACS & AOA qualified Orthopaedic Surgeon with over 20 years of orthopaedic experience and advanced many fellowship training programs in Australia and the United States. He is a subspecialist in primary, complex and revision hip, knee and shoulder arthroplasty, with expertise in Direct Anterior Approach hip replacement, robotic-assisted joint replacement and rapid recovery techniques. He is a clinical leader in short-stay arthroplasty programs delivering excellent patient outcomes and surgical efficiency.
Dr Nassar is a credentialed RACS and AOA Orthopaedic Consultant with multiple postgraduate qualifications, including Fellow of Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS Orth), a Master of Health Administration (MHA-USA), and Master of Business Administration (MBA-USA) followed by multiple advanced arthroplasty fellowships in USA and Australia.
Dr Nassar's focus is on delivering patient-centered orthopaedic care that combines advanced surgical techniques with a supportive recovery pathway. His approach involves using minimally invasive and precise methods that could reduce recovery time and help patients return more quickly to normal activities. As Founder and Clinical Director of ACRRA – Arthritis Care & Rapid Recovery Arthroplasty - he provides integrated care for arthritis, joint instability and complex orthopaedic conditions. He leads with a team-based model that includes many health professionals, with an emphasis on evidence-based treatment planning and coordinated rehabilitation and recovery strategies.
Research
Dr Islam Nassar has an interest in research focused on hip and knee arthroplasty, with particular attention to surgical techniques, implant selection, and recovery pathways. His areas of interest include minimally invasive approaches, such as the direct anterior approach for hip replacement, as well as patient-specific planning and technologies that may support surgical accuracy. He is also interested in enhanced recovery and short-stay arthroplasty models, aiming to better understand factors that may support early mobilisation and coordinated rehabilitation. Through ongoing engagement with current research and clinical practice developments, Dr Nassar aims to contribute to continuous improvement in patient care and outcomes.
